Hi, I’m Jonobie

Hi, I’m Jonobie (that’s pronounced "Jawn’-oh-bee"), and use she/her pronouns. I’m a therapist and coach, and I focus on helping people heal from trauma, improve their relationships, and discover who they really are. Before this, I spent two decades in the tech world, which definitely influences how I approach things now.

If you want to learn more about how I do therapy, read on or look through some of the Writings on this site. If you’re interested in learning from my years in software and about the business coaching I do, see SelfWitte Coaching.

My therapy style

I trained in a humanistic style and primarily practice common factors therapy, focusing on empathetic listening, building an honest relationship, understanding emotional and cognitive processes, and regularly evaluating progress. As a technical eclectic, I use what works, regardless of the approach. See What Type of Therapy Do You Do? for more details.

Adapting to you

I tailor my approach to fit each person’s unique needs, making it sometimes hard to describe my style. Sometimes we might explore the meaning of life and create meaningful rituals. Other times, we’ll focus on self-compassion, mindful movement, or using thought substitution to combat negative thoughts. My goal is to adapt to what works best for you. If things aren’t working, I want to discuss how to improve them or who might be a better fit for you.

Education

My Masters of Arts in Counseling is from Saybrook University and I previously obtained a Masters of Science in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. I regularly take continuing education in a variety of psychology, counseling, and neuroscience topics to learn more about the latest techniques and science of emotions, brains, and relationships.

Licensing information

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) license (MC 61555549) from the State of Washington. My National Provider Identifier number is 1528898970, and I am supervised by Alycia O’Connell , LCSW, LICSW, CADC III.

Beyond counseling…

Outside of my practice, I’m involved with the Puget Sound Rangers for our local Burning Man event, I brew my own beer, and I’m pretty into tablet weaving and weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom. I also really love homegrown tomatoes! The name "SelfWitte" is a nod to my interest in older crafts. It’s a Middle English word that means "one’s own knowledge and self".
